Haunted History

Here in Jacksonville, we take our history very seriously and we recognize the legacy that the pioneers left for us.  We also recognize that some of our pioneers are still with us in the forms of spirits and ghosts.  Hear more about these “restless” former residents when Historic Jacksonville resumes its “Haunted History” walking tours in 2021.  Costumed tour guides will be sharing both history and tales of individuals whose spirits still dwell in many of our historic buildings.

These tours are not your typical ‘ghost tours’ with special effects.   They are history tours about real hauntings resulting from past events.  The stories—some scary, some benign—come from multiple sources, from people who have experienced these lingering spirits.  They are our attempt to recognize and honor these restless souls.

Two completely different 1-hour tours will be offered, and both tours include haunted houses!

The Courthouse Tour highlights tales of brothels, epidemics and hangings.

The Britt Hill Tour features stories of arson, saloons and Oregon’s first Chinatown.

Tours will be offered the first Friday of each month from June through September with special October tours on both Friday and Saturday, October 8 & 9.   Summer tours will begin at 7, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45 p.m.  October tours will begin at 6, 6:15, 6:30, 6:45, and 7 p.m. Tour are offered with alternating start times.  Summer tours begin with the Courthouse tour.  October tours begin with the Courthouse on Friday night and the Britt Hill tour on Saturday night.
